Textiles Work Program

In this work program interns weave and work with fabric to produce items using a variety of equipment:

                          ·      knitting looms, lap looms, rigid heddle looms

                          ·      floor looms

                          ·      sewing machines

                          ·      a knitting machine

                          ·      sergers

Through creating woven/knit pieces and transforming them into functional products, students gain practical skills in linear measurement, handling tools responsibly, using materials economically, and teamwork.  Cordmaking, knitting, crochet,  macrame, needlepoint, embroidery, and other hand techniques are also explored.

As a school-based enterprise, completed products from the Textiles Work Program are sold.  Through the selling process students learn to price and display items for sale, handle and record cash/check transactions, and keep a record of sales on an Excel spreadsheet.  Items for sale include:

                             ·      scarves

                             ·      hats

                             ·      tunics

                             ·      purses

                             ·      mug rugs

                            ·      shawls/ponchos/sweaters
