Para-Professionals
The 70 Para-professionals (assistants)working at Miller are a multi-generational group from different career and academic backgrounds, such as marketing, management, business, construction, culinary arts and education to name just a few. All Para-professionals have passed the district proficiency test or have the equivalent of an AA degree. Many have obtained advanced degrees.
The Para professionals work in many different roles at Miller. They work alongside the teachers to direct and guide students in the various vocational education programs both on and off campus. In addition to vocational education, they help the students to build both functional and academic skills. Some assistants are fluent in sign language to help our students with hearing disabilities. Miller also has healthcare assistants specifically trained to attend to the physical needs of some of our students.
The staff come together each day to serve students with exceptionalities in order to foster independence, mobility, self-esteem and to maximize each students potential to best of their ability. We prepare students to participate in the working world as well as independent living. We strive to help students transition into life after school smoothly.
At Miller, we believe that the future of our community as a whole and the success of everyone in the community lies in all of our hands.
